But Bergen put on her party dress for us today. It was sunny and we were barely in need of sweaters.
Within an easy walk of the cruise ship dock was the World Heritage Site of Bryggen. It's the old wharf - a row of quaint two-story warehouses - where merchants from around the Baltic would meet and conduct business some 400 years ago. It no longer stores dried fish, but instead is filled with shops selling handknit Norwegian sweaters and the most gorgeous wool blankets; artist's galleries; and restaurants. Groan .... we could have bought everything!
Further down the cobbled street is the Waterfront Fish Market, where stalls sell a variety of fish right from the Atlantic. (Very smelly.) We could also have bought caviar packaged for travel.
