Everybody's a tourist

We were wandering along a pedestrian street in Rotterdam,  me pouring over the map, Tom trailing behind, and another couple passed us by.  "She reads the map and I just follow", he said to them.  "Where are you from? " she asked.  "Canada" he said.  "Where are you from?" he asked.  "Rotterdam!" she said.  So we stopped and had a short conversation with a couple of locals, halting English on their part, hand gestures on ours.

We crossed over a bridge - there are very many - and stood and watched while it was raised and lowered to accommodate a barge.

Later in the evening we listened to a Dutch folk/celtic trio called Ancora (think Rita McNeil - type music).  Pretty good, actually (though I must admit that my first thought when I heard about this group was, ABBA!!)  Then down to the Piazza,  to listen to a jazz violin/guitar duo (I get misty ...."), while a couple of passengers danced dreamily to the music.

A couple of Rotterdam police officers were on board for some reason,  and there they were,  looking over the balcony down to the Piazza, clearly enjoying the music as much as we were. Later, while one of them was doing some paperwork near the Piazza, the other was trying to take a selfie with the extravagant three-story background,  I went over to him and asked if I could take it for him.  "Thank you!" he said, and so a Caribbean Princess passenger takes a picture for a local cop's memory book.

Two other comments:  I've finally figured out the right balance of food and drink, so I don't go to bed feeling bloated  and, I confess, we bought tulip bulbs and gouda.
