Both sides now

When the Covid mask mandates were introduced, I was undergoing cancer treatment.  With a compromised immune system from the chemotherapy, wearing a mask in public was a no-brainer for me.  It was vital to protect myself from catching Covid.  Even now, some 4 years after the start of the pandemic, I still mask up on the bus and (mostly) in the mall.

But now I'm masking to protect others from my Covid infection.

Thank you to all those who masked up to protect me when I needed it.  Happy to return the favour.

  1. Dear Gwyn, thank you for your consideration of others. I have concluded that living with the presence of Covid is our new reality - meaning that we need to take the precautions that we deem best for ourselves and others. I keep up with my vaccines, and put on a mask when I consider there is a heightened risk, as my immune system is not robust. Recently, I picked up a head cold which turned out to be Covid a few days later. I was astonished (it was Patricia who got really sick and suggested I test) but concluded it was likely the latest variant, for which our current vaccines are not as effective. I now realize that I should test for every cold, as it is potentially Covid - I need to take that precaution to protect others.
