Today I received my first commission cheque for a sale I did not make to myself.  $17.00.  Break out the (cheap) champagne!

A blast from the past

I have just spent much of the morning on the computer.  My mother sent me a link to ancestry.co.uk which is offering free access to the 1911 Census this weekend.  In a matter of minutes, I found a listing for my maternal grandmother, Beatrice Bolton, and her family.  Then, of course, I had to check the 1901 Census ... then the 1881 Census ... then look for my dad's family ... Genealogy research is addictive.

Short stories are disappointing, don't you think?

Reading a short story is like eating a single potato chip, a teaspoon of ice cream, a sip of coffee ....  it promises much but never satisfies.  Humpf ...

Saanich - the tomato capital of Vancouver Island

Tom's nephew, Chuck, grows a mean tomato.  He must have a hundred tomato plants in his back yard, and as they start to ripen, he has tomatoes coming at him from all directions.  And the only person who likes tomatoes more than Chuck, is Tom.  So, every couple of days, Chuck's dear wife, Jacquie, drops a little present in the hedge outside our patio window on her way to work.  Pass the salt, please.

Tom and I are off Sept 24th on another adventure.  It has been our practice while on vacation to send (almost) daily email updates to friends and family on the places we've visited, the things we've done and the people we've met.  This trip we're blogging instead.  Check in on us from time to time to see where we are and what's going on ...
